A debate on the Government's proposed ban on smoking in public places took place at the Harlequin Theatre, Redhill, earlier this month.
Smokers and non smokers from across the borough attended the event, as well as representatives from Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) and the Freedom Organisation for the Right to Enjoy Smoking Tobacco (FOREST).
The meeting was chaired by Samuel Townend, Labour's prospective parliamentary candidate for Reigate.
A straw poll held at the end of the debate showed 16 per cent were against further restriction of smoking in public places, 40 per cent believed the proposed ban would be right and 44 per cent wanted an outright ban.
