Scenic Gatton Park in Rocky Lane, Reigate, will hold its next open day on Sunday, August 3. The gardens and grounds will be open from noon to 4pm, with guided tours during the afternoon and refreshments available in Gatton Hall. Admission is £4 per adult, with children free, and dogs welcome on a lead. The gardens and grounds include a bird hide, a restored Victorian parterre at the centre of the estate, and restored rock and Japanese gardens, all situated in 250 acres of ‘Capability’ Brown-designed parkland. Surrey Police has said it has shown violent offenders the red card, with the latest figures highlighting that public place and domestic violence incidents fell during this year's World Cup. For although England's performances on the pitch disappointed, total levels of violent offences reported during the World Cup, which ran from June12 to July 13, fell by around 40% compared with the figure recorded during the 2010 tournament.

Reigate Ramblers will hold a 5.5-mile circular walk entitled the Six Wives of Crowhurst and on the trail of Henry VIII, on Thursday, July 31, meeting at 10am at the car park next to the cricket field in Blindley Heath, and going via a flat route along farm tracks and fields, with ten stiles en route, and an optional pub lunch or drink afterwards.
