Reigate Community Festival in Priory Park today
The Reigate Community Festival is due to take place in Priory Park today.
The big free event, organised by the Reigate Events Collective and combined with Armed Forces Day, will feature a lively mix of displays, stands, live music and children’s entertainment.
The Tommy Matthews Fairground will be there, and a wide selection of food and drink will be available, including a licensed bar.
There will be military displays too marking Royal Armed Forces Day and the centenary of the start of the First World War.
The festival was first held in 2009 to celebrate the reopening of Reigate Priory Park following comprehensive improvements, and to mark Armed Forces Day.
It proved so successful that it was decided to form the Reigate Events Collective, with the aim of encouraging local events, and with an annual festival in the park as the flagship.
Now held every year on the last weekend in June, the Reigate Community Festival has become the best-attended event in the town's calendar, attracting upwards of 5,000 visitors and 100 stands.
This year's event will again see stands selling a range of locally-made produce and handcrafts, as well as promoting local charities and community groups, and offering fun activities - many of them free.
An acoustic lounge has also been added to the mix for this year, offering live music throughout the day.
Confirmed acts include the Redstone Community Big Band, Andy Moore, Dee Bee Blues, Dark Ages and Stephanie Davies and the Super Dynamics.
The main arena programme will feature the Band of the Surrey Yeomanry, Sky Birds of Prey, Hipsinc Belly Dancing, students from the Italia Conti School, the Rock Choir, Star Steppers and the Tug-of-War final - the heats for which will be held throughout the day.
The theme for this year's festival is the Edwardian era, and people are being invited to go along in fancy dress if they wish, with prizes for all those who make the effort.
Entry is free and free parking will be available throughout the day at all Reigate and Banstead Borough Council car parks.
