Fundraisers are inviting people to go for a spin in Redhill this Saturday (March 1) – without actually going anywhere.

For fitness fans will be taking to cycling machines at Donyngs Leisure Centre in Linkfield Lane to raise money in the first St Catherine's Hospice sponsored “Spinathon.”

The event will be running from noon to 8pm and will cost £10 per hour.

The fundraiser is geared up towards both novices and seasoned spinners, with participants able to push themselves as hard as they wish, whether they sign up for one hour or seven, and with professionally trained instructors on hand to make sure people get what they want out of their spin session safely. There are two themes to choose from - 'pedal power' hours or 'disco' sessions, complete with fancy dress, glowsticks and disco music. Everyone taking part will receive a fundraising pack and exclusive St Catherine's Hospice sweat band, and at the end of the spin session, a certificate and refreshments.

John Manfield from Redhill, who is taking part in one of the 'power hour' spin sessions, said: "I like to support St Catherine's because it is a local charity helping local people, so I can almost see the difference I make.”

He said: “The sponsored Spinathon is a new way to contribute and when I saw one of the posters I thought to myself, 'I could do that!'

“I'm really looking forward to it. It'll be a bit of a challenge because it's longer than I'm used to, but I know that I can turn down the resistance to make it easier if I need to, and there's always going to be an instructor there, ready to help people with all kinds of abilities.”

People can register for £10 per hour by calling Michaela Clements on 01293 447333 or by visiting the event website at: www.stch.org.uk/spinathon St Catherine’s Hospice provides end-of-life care and support to terminally ill people and their families across East Surrey, Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex.
