The Peter Pan of pop, Sir Cliff Richard, will perform a one-off concert at the Yehudi Menuhin School next month.

The acoustic concert to an audience of just 300 will take place in the award-winning Menuhin Hall in Stoke D'Abernon on Wednesday, September 20.

Sixty-five-year-old Sir Cliff, who has had chart hits in every decade of his career, is performing the concert to help raise money for the Princess Alice Hospice in Esher.

Sir Cliff, who lives in St George's Hill, Weybridge, has supported the hospice ever since it was launched, more than 21 years ago.

Encouraging people to join him on the night, he spoke exclusively to the Surrey Comet.

He said: "It's been a privilege to have had the pioneering Princess Alice Hospice almost on my doorstep for much of the time I've lived in Surrey.

"I can think of no more worthwhile charity to sing for and I hope you'll be there to support me on September 20 - if only to experience the acoustics and ambience of the wonderful, newly-built Menuhin Hall."

The evening, starting at 7.30pm, also includes performances by young musicians from the world-famous school.

A reception with wine and canapes with be served afterwards.

Hospice staff met with Sir Cliff's manager, Bill Latham, at the start of its Dig Deep Appeal for the new hospice development and he suggested the pop legend may be interested in performing a special fundraising concert.

Felicity Groombridge, head of fundraising and communications at the hospice, said: "We are delighted Sir Cliff Richard will perform in aid of our hospice within the intimate surroundings of the Menuhin Hall. It will definitely be a night to remember."

The Princess Alice Hospice provides specialist palliative care for people with life-threatening illnesses and their families, both at the hospice and in patients' homes.

Tickets, priced £100, are available now, but places are limited.
