THE best-selling Welsh act of the 90s, the Manic Street Preachers, have recently announced a major UK tour.

And the good news is they're coming to Southampton Guildhall on June 5. The band will perform material from their new studio album, Send Away the Tigers. A new single is due for release shortly.

The Manics first entered the UK charts in 1991, just reaching number 62 with You Love Us.

But greater success was to follow with a re-release of the single which then reached number 16, while Theme from M.A.S.H, A Design For Life, Kevin Carter and You Stole the Sun From My Heart all reaching the top ten. They finally scored their first number one with The Masses Against The Classes.

The band has gone from strength to strength and now attracts a wide audience from die-hard fans who have supported them since the early 90s to young new recruits.

Bass player Nicky Wire promises it will be something special, with "Springsteenesque long sets, working class rage, make-up and dumb punk fun."
