TWO million tonnes of London's rubbish is set to be dumped on Hampshire, the Daily Echo can reveal.
One tenth of the capital's growing waste mountain could end up in the county over the next 20 years.
That's despite the fact that the two landfill sites in the New Forest are already expected to be full within five years.
The controversial plan has been condemned by council leaders. County Council deputy leader, Mike Woodhall, said the proposals were "a bleak prospect for Hampshire".
The leader of New Forest District Council and acting chairman of the New Forest National Park Authority, Cllr Mel Kendal, said: "This is horrific news.
"I will be doing everything in my power to prevent that happening."
The landfill proposals are in the draft South-East Plan, drawn up by the South East England Regional Assembly, setting out a 20-year vision for housing, the economy, transport and protecting the environment.
