THE CHAIRMAN opened the meeting on February 2 with a warm welcome to all in attendance.

As this was the first Friday in the month a brief account of meetings on January 5, 12, 19, and 26 was given, thereby bringing everyone up to date on the club's activities.

There was just one birthday to celebrate, for Mrs S. Kirk.

Mr Collins entertained for the afternoon with the very first musical quiz he had compiled, dating back to 1998 when Mrs Gibbs had asked him to produce one. He has since completed 22, the first consisting of 36 pieces, which had to be identified, either as name that tune or name the singer.

As usual some music was easier to recognise than others. Moon River and Begin the Beguine had members swaying, Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head and Jeepers Creepers had feet tapping and the Strauss Waltz's almost had members up dancing! The winners had 30 correct answers and six other teams ranged from 28 to 21 right answers but all received rewards of Mars Bars, kindly donated by Mr Givens.

The chairman thanked him for the entertainment as well as for testing everyone's musical knowledge and memory. She reminded everyone that next week PC Hugh Foster, the Cannington and Quantock beat manager, will be talking about his role in policing the area.

Raffle winners were Mrs Sanders, Mrs Fry and Mrs Kilfoyle. After refreshments the meeting closed.
