A DRAMA group, which has entertained audiences in Weardale for 18 years, is in danger of folding if it cannot recruit a producer or director.
The Phoenix Players, based in Stanhope, has more than 20 members and has been staged a pantomime to near-capacity audiences at St John's Chapel town hall this year.
Secretary Judith Marshall said: "It's important that amateur theatre is kept alive and allowed to grow here in the dale.
"What we need is someone with the experience and energy to put us through our paces.
"There is no lack of enthusiasm among the players, although some of us are getting on in years."
Mrs Marshall said the Phoenix Players has strong support behind the scenes, but without a producer or director there was a danger of the group having to fold. She said: "Our aim is to stage at least one production every year."
