Harwell's good run in Berks, Bucks & Oxon Division 1 South came to end when they lost 39-10 in a scrappy match away to Maidenhead 3rd.
A much-changed side, which required further rearranging due to an early injury to hooker Dougie Bosley, meant that Harwell lacked cohesion.
There was still hope when they trailed 10-0 after 38 minutes with a wind-assisted second half to come.
But the concession of a converted try just before half-time gave them too much to do.
Four more second-half tries, and a conversion for Maidenhead sealed a good win for them, but Harwell's spirit saw them score late tries through Ian Empson and Mickey King.
Abingdon's home Premier Division clash with Wallingford was postponed when the referee didn't turn up.
