Potters Bar Town manager Andy Leese hailed his FA Cup heroes after they gave Conference side Woking a big fright at Kingfield on Saturday.

The Scholars went down 3-2 to miss out on a trip to League One side Tranmere Rovers in the first round proper of the competition, but they made their hosts battle all the way. And two late goals from Richard Howard and Gabriel Fanibuyan almost took the Cards to a replay.

Now Leese is hoping his side can build on the experience.

He said: "I'm extremely proud of the players. We have gone there and given a good account of ourselves. The biggest compliment I can pay them is that, if you had walked in at half-time, I don't think you would have known who was a full-time Conference outfit and who was the Ryman Division One outfit.

"We were well worth the two goals we scored and worth another one. In the last ten to 15 minutes, we had them rattled and we could have been bringing them back for a replay.

"We were never outclassed. It was an historic day and it is disappointing that we lost, but we did give them a run for their money."

The Scholars have never previously reached this far in the FA Cup and Leese is hopeful his troops will build on their giant killing exploits.

He added: "We showed what we are capable off and have now matched up to the standards I expect and demand - now we have got to do it in league games.

"We are three wins away from being in the top eight and that is the target. I will keep challenging the players and adding the quality where it is needed. That's my job and I will get it right."
