Barwell 3 Westfields 0

WESTFIELDS bowed out of the Midland Alliance League Cup at the second round stage when they were comprehensively beaten in Leicestershire by a speedy, attacking side.

The home side established control with a pair of first-half wonder strikes from brothers Karl and Craig Noble.

Things failed to improve after the break for Westfields with the late sending-off of goalkeeper Mark Hopkins for bringing down Craig Noble, who got up to beat stand-in stopper Wayne Hoskins from the penalty spot.

Barwell took the lead in the early stages when Karl Noble fired in a rebound after Mark Davis had cleared his initial shot off the line.

In the 30th minute, Matt Morris conceded a free-kick on the edge of the area and Stuart Clamp's effort was cleared only as far as Craig Noble who beat Hopkins with a rising shot from 25 yards.

Paul Burton was unlucky with a shot which hit a post and Matt Beale was thwarted by a flying save as Westfields tried hard to hit back before the break.

Burton was unlucky to be denied a second-half penalty as Westfields worked hard to reduce arrears.

But, as they pushed forward, the Hereford visitors were caught on the break and Hopkins was harshly dismissed before Craig Noble rounded off the home side's scoring.
