Sir, The A415 south of Witney is well known locally as a dangerous stretch of road, and this view has been reinforced recently by not one, but two serious accidents within five days.

Following previous fatal accidents on the A415 near Cokethorpe School, the speed limit has been reduced to 50mph, and the school has appealed to the county council to take further measures to warn drivers and reduce speeding.

When the council declined to act further, the school itself installed warning signs near to both the entrance and exit turnings, in an attempt to protect pupils, staff, and parents, as well as the wider community, from further road accidents.

I was saddened by the two recent serious accidents, and moved to write by an article in the Witney Gazette, which indicated that the county council still appears to consider that further traffic-calming measures are unnecessary, intending to drop an improvement plan for the road.

How many more fatalities do there have to be on this stretch of road before the council will accept the need for at least an investigation into action that could be taken?

I suggest there must now be a strong case for a road safety camera on this part of the road.
