ROCK-BOTTOM London Welsh will be working on cutting out silly mistakes during their week-off after their latest defeat in National League Division One.

Simple handling errors and turnovers cost London Welsh dear as they went down 28-24 at home to Otley in National League Division One on Saturday.

At least Welsh had the consolation of collecting a bonus point from a match of fluctuating fortunes.

Welsh scored three good tries scoring machine Alex Cadwallader going over for the first in the first half after fine work by Tim Holgate.

Man-of-the-match Holgate's tenacity saw him plough through three defenders to score the second, while Johnny Marsters scored his first try for London Welsh after some great running by Holgate and Alex Cadwallader and solo driving by Colm Hannon.

Lee Cholewa's conversion brought Welsh within a point, but the Yorkshiremen had the final say with a penalty.

Matt Brown scored a hat-trick of tries as Richmond stormed to a 32-12 victory over Ealing to stay top of London One.

The convincing win with Richmond touching down six times while holding Ealing tryless was the perfect revenge for their Powergen National Trophy defeat to the same team three weeks ago.

The home team got off to a flyer, racking up 17 points in as many minutes, before injuries to key players forced areshuffle.

Brown, who hails from Nottinghamshire club Newark, who nurtured Dusty Hare in his youth, chalked up his first hat-trick in his eighth season.

The other Richmond tries came from Tristan Wesley, James Whitfield and a penalty try. They now have a week off but return to league duty at Worthing on Saturday, October 22.

Twickenham, boosted by Phil Astbury's fourth-minute try and conversion, won 25-3 on Saturday against Letchworth.

Letchworth, who had given Twickenham problems in the past, never recovered after fumbling the ball in their 22 to leave Astbury to sprint 30 yards for his try under the posts.

Charlie l'Anson and Russell Whittam added further tries for Twickenham, who play their first away game of the season at Norwich on Saturday.

Twickenham: Nicholson (Thomas, 40mins), Tytherleigh, Moses, Goff, Davies, I'anson (Finnegan, 70), Colquorn, Kirby, Rogers, Astbury, Stone (Foley, 40 mins), Clark, Wadden, Whittam, Isherwood.

Old Hamptonians scored 10 tries and seven conversions to hammer Old Verulamians 64-17 and keep up the pressure on London New Zealand at the top of London Four North West.

They raced 26-0 ahead in the first 20 minutes, with touch downs from Sam Wilson, Matt Eckersall and Duncan Peel (two).

Ben Brown (two), Ollie Price, Alex Ritchie, Mark Jones and Gareth Willcock added tries as Hamptonians, who visit Old Economicals in the National Cup on Saturday, produced some champagne rugby.

Man-of-the-match Nick Pritchard set up the first touch down for debutant Craig Kruger. This was followed by tries for Roman Zakrevsky (three), Mark Jones (three), Simon Slattery (two) and debutant scrum-half Glen Ambrose (two).

Keith Luckman converted seven of the 11 tries.

Chiswick: Hammond; Slattery, Jones, Kruger, Zakrevsky (Lewis), Luckman, Ambrose; Johnson, Nichols, Campbell (Betts), Williams, Chraplywyj, Vinden, Maguire, Pritchard (Robbings).

LEAGUE leaders Richmond women will aim to bounce back from last Sunday's 25-17 defeat at Worcester when they host Thirsk this weekend.

They hit back strongly in the second half after trailing 18-3 at half-time with tries from Chris Ovenden and Theresa Andrews.

Coach Simon Crabb said: "This was a frustrating performance, but nonetheless a good lesson in how important it is to get the attitude and techniques right for the physical side of the game".
