Rawdon AFC 0 Buttershaw White Star 0

(Rawdon won 5-3 on penalties) RAWDON AFC progressed in the Carlsberg FA Sunday Cup after playing extra-time and having a penalty shoot out.

They triumphed over Buttershaw White Star at Guiseley's AFC's Nethermoor Park ground on Sunday and now face either Huddersfield Irish or Liverpool side Canada in the third round on November 26.

The sides negated each other in an uncompromising 90 minutes and then an added half hour of extra-time. Rawdon were never able to get into a flowing game with the battling White Star matching them move for move and in fact dominating the first-half.

Rawdon were indebted to their keeper Andy Pickering in more ways than one. In normal play he was a commanding figure in their goal area handling faultlessly and marshalling his defence well.

When it came to the penalty shoot out the sides were locked at 3-3 with a superb display of how to take penalties.

Buttershaw's skipper Garry Tyson then stepped forward and Pickering guessed the right way and made a good stop. This paved the way for teenager Danny Forrest to step forward and net Rawdon's remaining penalty to seal their win.

Other successful penalty takers for Rawdon were Richard Machell, Oliver Halliday, Matt Larkins and Tony Gilks. For White Star Chris Graham, Mark Bett and Lee Bialek were the successful spot kickers.
