A STAR-studded golfing line-up took to the fairways at Newport's Celtic Manor Resort today for the start of the All Star Cup.

Surprise additions Meat Loaf and Jane Seymour joined the USA team taking on the Europeans in the celebrity golf tounament hosted by Ant and Dec.

At yesterday's practice day, Bruce Forsyth, the most senior competitor in the celebrity golf tournament at 78, pipped the whippersnappers to land his ball within nine feet of the hole.

The Strictly Come Dancing presenter picked up a diamond pendant worth £10,000 for his efforts.

The star intends to donate the prize to his chosen charity.

Rather modestly, he said: "It was just a lucky shot. It was from about 100 yards and I was around eight foot short.

"Actually, it was uphill, the wind was blowing, the rain was in my face...it was a lucky shot really."

Brucie's golfing prowess certainly impressed his team mates.

A gushing Chris Evans said: "The guy plays off a 12 - he can play. Old guys play golf a lot and they play well."

Hollywood actor William Baldwin was a little less impressed with the winning shot, comparing it to an "ice hockey slap shot."

The Sliver actor, who confessed to being hung over after drinking tequila into the early hours with fellow celebrities, said he intends to "pummel the European team into submission."

When asked who he was most scared of on the opposition team, he said "that footballing dude" in reference to former England and Arsenal striker Ian Wright.

The competition pits Europe against America and features the likes of Ronan Keating, James Nesbitt, Alice Cooper and Dallas star Patrick Duffy.

Last year's inaugural event saw the European team pip their American counterparts in a thrilling finish.
