Hot-shot Leon Archer was honoured for his role in Boreham Wood's superb FA Trophy run last season before Saturday's FA Cup tie against St Ives Town.

Archer was presented with the FA Carlsberg Trophy 2005/6 Top Goalscorer award after netting six times in the competition.

And the red-hot striker refused to rest on his laurels. He promptly shot a hat-trick to send Wood through to the next round of an even more famous cup competition. The 26-year-old said: "I'm absolutely over the moon about getting this award. We had a great run and the goals helped us progress through each stage, but it was a team effort.

"It's a shame we didn't make it past the semis, but now we have tasted success, the lads will want to make it all the way to the final this time."

Wood host either Dulwich Hamlet or Tooting & Mitcham in this season's FA Trophy, when the competition gets under way next month.

Archer was Wood's top goalscorer of the 2005/6 campaign, notching 31 goals. The striker, a business manager at NatWest Bank, was joined by Andy Cox, who collected an award for Southern League Groundsman of the Year before Saturday's game.
