Rocket science was on the curriculum at a Colchester primary school.
Pupils at Parsons Heath Primary School, in Templewood Road, aimed for the stars as they spent the day building and launching rockets.
Headteacher Sheena Clover said pupils learnt about aerodynamics and chemistry as well as having fun.
"I think we may have a few rocket scientists in our midst," she said.
"Some of the rockets went really high, but you learn as much from the ones that don't work - and finding out the reason for that.
"Children remember events like this and you don't know what little seeds you plant in children's minds."
