A BEER festival outside Oswestry is promising its second year will be ‘bigger and better’ and says they will not run out of beer this time.

The Kinnerley Beer Festival is back on Saturday, May 25 with organisers promising that it will be a day to remember with more beers and spirits than the inaugural event last year.

Sara Hudson, who is one of the organisers, says the lessons of 2023 – when a huge turnout of punters saw the bar run dry – will be learned.

And she added that the day, which will be spread across Kinnerley Parish Hall and St Mary’s Church, will be family-friendly with live music and donkey rides.

She said: “We’re holding it on May 25.

“It’s the second one that we’ve held and last year was really successful which was helped by the beautiful weather we had.

“This year we’re going to use the church too as well as the parish hall.

“Last year, we had music playing that people put on for free and were joining in but this year we have paid for music, with some people playing for free too in the church.

“We’re going for bigger and better for 2024.

“Last year, we ran out of beer because as it was our first one, we didn’t know how much to cater for, but this year we will have enough.

“We’ve got donkey rides for the kids too and we’ve tried to be as family friendly as we can.

“There’s also gin and prosecco for those not wanting beer.

“We want to attract as many visitors as we can, and people from Oswestry but we also have our beer afficionados too with a good following.

“The Bicton Beer Festival has been an excellent mentor for us – we’ve supported them too and learnt from other shows in Shrewsbury.”

Sara says that a final announcement on what beers will be available will be made closer to the day while organisers await confirmation from local brewers.

She also highlighted the 576 bus runs directly past the two venues being used to host the drinkers and encouraged people to come.

“We do hope people will come and enjoy the day and raise funds for both venues,” she added.

The festival runs from 2-8.30pm and entry is £5 with a free glass.
