A RHYL community centre will now deliver free meals to isolated elderly residents.

The Foryd Community Centre, which houses the town’s largest food bank, launched a Meals on Wheels service on Monday, March 23 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The meals are for anyone over the age of 70 who struggles with preparing meals or accessing food supplies and are being made in the centre’s community cafe under strict hygiene and environmental guidelines by qualified staff and volunteers.

A spokesperson for the centre said: "Many of our older residents already suffer from loneliness, let's take this opportunity make sure they are supported and we can come out the other end as a more caring community."

The meals are free and delivered daily, with the staff at the Foryd Centre also available to collect shopping and prescriptions if necessary. Recipients must be a resident of Rhyl.

Anyone requiring a meal must phone by 10am for delivery that day. To request support for yourself or someone you care for, contact the centre on 01745 339779. It is advised that requests are made as soon as possible, as there are a limited number of spaces available.
