A couple who lost their two year old daughter to a brain tumour are organising a vintage tea party to raise awareness and funds for brain cancer research.

Horley residents, Tim and Kirsty Lee’s daughter Keira was diagnosed in November 2013 and died just one week later after surgery to remove the tumour.

Mr Lee said: “I’ve tried many times to put into words how this has affected me, my wife, Keira’s siblings and generations of our family – but I simply can’t explain the absolute horror we have and continue to go through.”

Brain tumours are the most common cause of cancer death in children, and ten children or young people are diagnosed every week in the UK alone. Brain tumours kill more people than any other form of cancer yet it receives less than 2% of research funding.

Mr and Mrs Lee were determined to do something meaningful in Keira’s name and set up LoveUKeira.

Mr Lee said: “By raising funds for research and the awareness campaign HeadSmart, we hope to make a real impact.”

Awareness of the signs and symptoms will reduce average times to diagnosis, meaning earlier treatment and a better chance of a good outcome.

The vintage tea party is on Saturday, March 14 at St Francis’ Church Hall, 84 Balcombe Road, Horley from 3pm. For £5 you can enjoy tea or coffee and scones for the whole afternoon.

There will also be stalls, a raffle, a silent auction, kids activities and lots more.
