Meet cats needing homes this weekend and maybe find the right cat for you.

The Cat Homing show is a chance to meet the cats being cared for by Crawley, Reigate & district branch of Cats Protection. It is a free event but they welcome donations of cat food.

Cat homing officer Clara Seddon said: “It is a great way to see the cats without pressure. We don’t have a centre so the cats are usually in foster homes where you can feel obliged to adopt.”

Cats Protection have cats of all ages and personalities and will help match you with the right cat. If you are interested they can take your details and arrange a home visit to help settle your cat in before you adopt.

Meeting the cats is also much better than an online photo.

Ms Seddon said: “Black cats are difficult to photograph and in photos they look like a black blob. But people fall in love when they actually meet them. Finding cats a new home is so rewarding.”

The cats often go in to care when there is a change in circumstances. A family may emigrate or move into accommodation where cats are not allowed. Sometimes children develop allergies or the cat is in a car accident and the family can’t afford the vet.

Ms Seddon said the number of adoptions were now going up after a couple of years where more cats needed homes and fewer new families came forward.

At Cats Protection all cats are treated, neutered, micro-chipped, treated for worms and fleas and started on vaccinations.

The Cat Homing Show is 11am till 3pm on Sunday 15th February at Barnfield Residential Home, Upfield, Horley, RH6 7LA.
