Keighley Albion's second team success this season is definitely worth a mention in this local column.

Albion A's 19-game unbeaten league and cup run finally came to an end last weekend with 9-6 defeat at the hands of Thornton in the Pennine Supplementary Cup.

The Albion boys, currently at the top of Pennine League's Sixth Division, battled the second placed Fifth Division side tooth and nail until the 20 minute of extra time.

Albion A are still undefeated in the league and have scored some massive results this season against their opposition.

They have 18 victories, which gives them maximum points (36) and their points differential is superior to their nearest competitor West Leeds, although the latter have three games in hand on Albion.

Albion A have scored 825 points, an eye-popping average of more than 45 points a game.

But their defence has also been stingy, allowing only 129 points, an average of just over seven points a game.

It's no wonder that the club have secured a kit sponsorship from The Three Horses pub. Who wouldn't want to be associated with such success?

Hopefully in the coming weeks, the boys will wrap up the division championship and we can get their team picture in the paper with a nice story to go with it. Good luck with the rest of the season guys!

l In other rugby league news, the Cougars have an interesting schedule over the Easter holiday, with a winnable game at Cougar Park against Huslet tomorrow and a tough ask against National League Two favourites at Featherstone on Monday.

Head coach Barry Eaton has the Cougars playing pretty well but last week's Challenge Cup heart-breaker was a killer result for Keighley.

Losing the way they did in the last ten minutes or so will hopefully spur them on as they look to kick-start their league campaign with a victory.
