IT would appear from the Hereford Matters magazine (Feb-May 07) that one part of Herefordshire Council does not know what the other half is doing.
This council newsletter carries a photograph of the green-fingered youth group cultivating land behind the Youth Centre; a lottery-funded project, with tools donated by the Rotary Club, the young peoples' contribution to Ledbury in Bloom.
Yet this very month, Herefordshire Council is also applying for lottery funding to demolish the purpose-built and now well-used Youth Centre, which will include destroying the new garden, to build a new library.
Perhaps it is time for Herefordshire Council to listen to the people of Ledbury. We do not want our youth to be deprived of their present centre. No-one thinks this is the right site for a new library - away from the town centre and appalling access for older people.
We have had our fill of new buildings. The Master's House should be pursued.
CATHERINE M WARD, Victoria Road, Ledbury.
