A NATIONAL park authority is encouraging visitors to boost fitness with adventure sports, pamper days and guided walks.

New workshops, run by the North Yorkshire Moors National Park Authority, include an introduction to chakras, reiki, self-hypnosis and meditation.

There are also stress-busting days for those who want to relax and a range of adventure activities - including canoeing, climbing and cycling - for people who like a challenge.

Those looking for a gentler way to improve fitness can take part in free guided walks, which will be held on the first Sunday and Wednesday of each month until November.

The walks have been organised as part of the national Walking the Way to Health scheme, together with North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust.

They range from one to five miles, with three levels of difficulty - from gentle strolls along easy terrain suitable for wheelchairs and buggies to more challenging walks.

Sally Ann Smith, events and exhibition co-ordinator for the park authority, said: "Walking is widely recognised as one of the most beneficial forms of exercise for people of all ages and abilities.

"It can also be a useful for people recuperating from an operation or illness."

"As well as being an ideal place for adventure, the beautiful landscape of the National Park can also offer peace and tranquillity for those looking to relax.

"Based at the Moors National Park Centre, in Danby, the workshops will help people unwind."
