DUCKS and dogs, brass and bluebells feature in a packed programme at Congleton Park.

Attracting more people was one of the aims of the £1 million park revamp undertaken by the borough council.

Park officer Roger Leverett says 2006 was a successful year for community events.

A total of 15 were held in the park in 2006, and several events have now been booked for 2007.

Jack Swan from Cheshire Wildlife Trust and Congleton in Bloom will lead a bluebell walk through the Town Wood on Saturday, April 28 at 2pm.

The wood is a Site of Biological Importance, and the walk starts from the bandstand.

The following day will feature the Davey's Race, a plastic duck race on the River Dane between the two park footbridges.

The ducks can be sponsored, the money going to the David Lewis Centre.

Corporate sponsorship is available for the business race, and there will also be a public race, where ducks can be sponsored for £2.

The park plays host on Sunday, May 13, to a PDSA fun dog family show at midday.

Music will fill the park in the summer with two brass band concerts organised by the Friends of Congleton Park.

The Brass in the Park shows are free, and take place on Sunday July 1 and Sunday July 22.

If you would like to hire the park to stage an event ring Mr Leverett on 01260-281982.
