COUNTRYSIDE enthusiasts will be able to dig out their walking shoes and explore Bewdley thanks to the new Ribbesford Circular Trail.

It was officially opened today and has been developed by Worcestershire County Council's countryside service to take in Ribbesford Church, Blackstone Meadows and the River Severn.

Councillor Derek Prodger, the county council's cabinet member for environment, said: "Countryside routes such as this have many potential benefits, including social, health and economic.

"Countryside recreation has an important part to play in the regeneration of the rural economy and tourism. I am confident this new trail will be enjoyed by many for years to come."

The two-mile trail, which was officially opened by Maurice Broomfield, chairman of the county council, has been developed with funding through Bewdley Development Trust from Advantage West Midlands and Welcome to Our Future, Natural England and Wyre Forest District Council.

The trail is waymarked and signposted and is also accessible to both pushchairs and mobility vehicles via special gateways.

A free colour leaflet, containing a map, brief route description and information about local wildlife and history, is available from Bewdley's Tourist Information Centre and Library or directly from the Countryside Service.
