POLICE swooped on a supermarket car park after reports that a man was seen pointing what looked like a gun at a woman in his car.
Scores of shoppers looked on as firearms officers and local police sealed off the car park and surrounded the car.
The man, a 28-year-old from Taunton, was arrested and a toy gun was seized.
The woman was released unharmed.
The man was taken to Taunton Police Station, where he was quizzed following the incident at about 10am on Saturday.
He was later released after accepting a caution for possession of an imitation firearm.
A police spokesman said: "We were called to the scene by a member of the public who reported seeing a man holding a firearm, which was pointed at a woman in a car.
"The car park was closed for a short time during the incident for the safety of members of the public and our officers."
