Richmond Women's Rugby Club will be supplying five of the England A team for the Women's European Championship in Madrid starting on April 25 - Emma Layland, Katie Smith, Becky Essex, Harriet Slynn and Fiona Pocock.

Layland featured in this season's Grand Slam winning RBS Women's Six Nations Championship team, while Smith, Pocock and Slynn were part of the A squad who have recently beaten France and suffered a narrow defeat to the Nomads.

The five have also played a significant part in Richmond's success. Prior to the championship, they will face Wasps on Sunday to determine which of the two finish second in Premiership One. Richmond seconds meet Rosslyn Park in Premiership Two, while the third team must beat Aylesford to gain promotion from South East Two.

England play Russia on the opening day in the European Championship Pool A on Saturday April 28, Italy on April 30 and Spain on May 2. The play-off games are on May 5.
