John Patrick's gentle yet poignant comedy The Curious Savage is Chandler's Ford MDG Players latest production.
The play takes place in an American care home where wealthy widow, Ethel Savage, has been placed by her greedy step-children intent on saving their fortune from her do-gooder schemes.
Though American played with an English accent, the humour of the play translates well. And despite some first night nerves, the pithy one-liners were delivered with enough verve to satisfy the appreciative audience.
Jillie Curtis was clearly having a ball as Ethel Savage.
The actors playing the other residents at the home worked well as an ensemble and created believable and sympathetic characters. Sarah Sullivan brought dignity to the role of Miss Wilhelmina.
