PIONEERING Wiveliscombe residents are banding together to bring more environmentally friendly biodiesel to the town.
Biodiesel is essentially just used vegetable oil and it is cheaper than diesel and far more environmentally benign.
A number of vehicles in the village - including a van - have already tested out the fuel, and now a co-op is being formed to facilitate supply.
The co-op, Wivey Biofuel Club, is now seeking more members with diesel vehicles and will be holding an open meeting at 8.30pm on Tuesday April 3 in the Skittle Alley of The Bear Inn, Wiveliscombe.
1,000 litre bunded tanks will be delivered from the processing factory in Plympton and members of the fuel co-op will top up from this supply.
In the long term, members of the co-op hope that demonstrating the viability of this fuel will spark sufficient interest to persuade one of the local garages to take over supply and make it available to a wider audience.
