Colchester's Liberal Democrats have appointed an acting leader after Terry Sutton stepped down.
Mr Sutton, who took over as group leader in May last year, is standing down due to work commitments. He took over from Colin Sykes who lost his Stanway seat in the 2006 elections. The Lib Dems are currently in opposition on Colchester Council.
Anne Turrell, who represents Mile End, was group deputy leader and she will be acting leader until after the elections, when the Lib Dems will hold a vote for the new leader.
Mr Sutton represents Berechurch on the council. He served as mayor, between 2005 and 2006, and is actively involved with Colchester United where he is an associate director.
The Lib Dems are due to launch their manifesto next week.
