More than eight out of ten children in Haringey have been given their first choice of primary school.

Parents of 2,925 children last Friday discovered if their child had received any of their four choices, with 2,401 gaining entry to their first-choice school.

However, 110 applicants did not get any of their four choices but Haringey Council said all these applicants have been offered a place at another school.

Councillor Liz Santry, executive member for children and young people, said: "This is good news for the majority of applicants who have been successfully placed where they want to go."

Gail Engert, Lib Dem spokeswoman for children and young people, said: "We have not been appraised of the full facts, but it is clearly going to be a traumatic and heart searching time for the two out of 10 children who do not get first preference and will not be with friends in the school of choice.

"Furthermore there are 110 children who didn't get any of their four preferences."
