CK Building Contractors sponsored Andover AC took part in the last round of the Wessex League cross country on Sunday.

The final event was held at Avon Heath Park in Ringwood where the senior men's race had to contend with all weather conditions, a mixture of sun, rain, wind and hailstones. The race finished in brilliant sunshine, only outshone by Dougie Brisco's delight at finishing eighth placed man, securing second place M50 overall for the league competition. A fantastic achievement as he missed a couple of early races.

The senior women had a sparse turn out and only the most dedicated athletes took part. Jackie Jones had her best race of the year to finish 36th and in the U11s Ellis Hewlett, who never seems to stop smiling, ran her heart out to finish a brilliant 12th. In the U13 girls, having suffered from a groin strain in the week, Millie Dobinson was pleased to get round in one piece for 29th. Under 15 girl Christie Woodford finished her very tough cross country season in tenth, her best result, displaying determination in the finishing straight to hold off a challenge from behind.

Going into this last race, the U13 boys knew a good team effort would give them the chance of a team medal and they produced the goods to come home with silver.

James Pitt lead the team home with his best result of eighth, followed by Dan Jones 13th, Roland Barter 15th, Francis Proctor 20th and a fast finishing Gary Jones in 22nd. Two members of this team Tom Bennett and Alex Toomey, while not at this race, secured vital points earlier in the season. This is one of the most exciting, up and coming teams the club has had for sometime.
