FALMOUTH COLTS 7pts BODMIN COLTS 17pts

THIS under 18 cup defeat was another example of how close this improving Falmouth side are pushing their opponents. The difference was much closer even than the scoreline suggests.

The visitors were a very efficient and well-prepared team, whereas Falmouth play in spasms and as individuals, only occasionally realising that rugby is a team game.

Early pressure meant that the visitors scored twice through the efforts of their forwards, with No 8 Paul Carter and scrum-half James Dale scoring.

When Falmouth woke up they replied with a spectacular try from fly-half Gareth Leaver, finding a gap in his own 22 to score under the opponents posts and at 12-7 down at the interval the game was anybody's.

Only some stout defence by Matt Bevans, Luke Dirkin and Ben Ambrose kept a fast and furious visiting threequarter line at bay, but Falmouth eventually succumbed to Tom Cheeseman who added the decisive points.

Bodmin's Mark Turton, playing at lock, was a decisive factor winning a majority of lineout ball.

Once again the front row of Toby Mears, Helston hooker Dan Miners and Harry Martin beavered away to frustrate the opposition, but keep an eye open for Ben Wilson who has filled the scrum half position with style.

To sum up, two thirds of the Colts (Falmouth) team is totally committed, but one third are "dreckley" boys and regretfully this shows at the final hurdle.

The next game is away to Hayle Colts on Saturday, March 24. Players should meet at 1pm at the Recreation Ground, Falmouth.
