North Leigh 2, Almondsbury Tn 2

North Leigh chairman Pete King could be in hot water with the Sport Italia Hellenic League after confronting the referee following their eventful Premier Division clash at home to Almondsbury on Saturday.

King spoke strongly to referee Kevin Norris following a fiery end to the game in which three players were sent off and the visitors scored a late equaliser.

"I told him what a disgraceful performance he gave and that I never wanted to see him again," fumed King.

For the second time this season, King will be reported to the league.

Following a similar incident after the pre-Christmas match at Highworth, King was fined and warned as to his future conduct.

North Leigh skipper Joe Burnell was sent off for illegal use of an elbow, while Almondsbury's keeper Andy King and defender Steve Peters were also dismissed.

Almondsbury opened the scoring in the 35th minute when a long ball out of defence found forward Brad Andrews, who lobbed a shot over Richard Barrett.

The second half saw North Leigh redouble their efforts which were eventually rewarded in the 76th minute.

Stuart Huxley fed Burnell, whose cross-cum-shot sailed over keeper Andy King into the far corner.

Two minutes later, a similar cross - this time from the left flank by Simon Futcher - saw the ball fizz into the net to put North Leigh ahead.

They held the lead until the 90th minute when they failed to clear a throw-in and Paul McKelvaney threaded a shot through a throng of players into the net.

Clanfield 0, Malmesbury Vics 1

Clanfield slipped to another narrow defeat in Division 1 West.

They fell behind when Jason Court chested the ball into his own net.

With the elements in their favour after the break, Neil Barrett shot wide and Pete Jenkins should have done better with a late chance.

  • North Leigh returned to the top of the Premier Division table after a 1-0 win at Milton on Monday, Andy McCabe scoring their goal.
