West Bowling posted a valuable 28-20 win at Oldham St Annes to move a point clear of the National Conference Premier Division relegation zone with just two matches to play.
Bowling were staring down the barrel of defeat when they trailed their rock-bottom hosts 8-0 but a try from centre Tim Sutcliffe, converted by Ben Whyte, put them back in the game at 8-6 going into the second half.
Further touchdowns from Martin Tordoff, Mick Derrick, Gareth Cullington and Whyte, who also added the extras on three occasions, then ensured the crucial success.
Bradford Dudley Hill crushed mid-table Heworth 50-0 at Parry Lane and have hit the straps just at the right time in the Division Two title race, moving up to second place behind Waterhead.
Second-row forward Liam Jordan was the star of the show with four touchdowns and Danny Herbert (2), Shaun Dickinson, Lewis Evans and Neil Wall joined him en route to the whitewash.
