BOLTON south east MP Brian Iddon has spoken in Parliament about the extensive use of drugs in prisons.

Dr Iddon focused on the particular problems faced in his constituency by staff at HMP Forest Bank, in Agecroft, which has been named second in a UK league of shame for drug use with more than a quarter of random drugs tests proving positive.

Dr Iddon told fellow MPs about the various methods used to bring drugs into the prison.

He also criticised the lack of attention paid to searching inmates returning to prison after a court appearance - which his investigations had revealed was a common method of bringing drugs into the prisons.

First in the league of shame was Brixton Prison in London.
