Chippenham Sunday League Division One

Leaders North Star A were made to work hard for their two points at lowly Atworth United who they beat 4-2.

Atworth had been struggling to score of late and were further disadvantaged after striker Jack Adcock has been ruled out for a few weeks with a sprained ankle.

They led 1-0 after 20 minutes when Stuart Holland's corner was met at the far post but the late run of Paul Burns who gave the keeper no chance.

Despite a majority of possession for the remainder of the half North Star were unable to crack the home defence superbly marshalled by Ricky Sullivan and Glen Young and indeed on the break both Stuart Holland and Ian Jeffery should have done better when ideally placed in front of goal.

North Star levelled through Ronnie Kallmeier early in the second half and after going 2-1 ahead courtesy of Darren Legg's second goal in as many weeks they must have thought they had won the game.

But Atworth never gave up and after some impressive prompting from midfield general Ian Jeffery, Ross Menghini latched onto Alex Davies cross field pass to smash home an equaliser.

This spurred the away side into greater urgency and in the last 10 minutes the visitors grabbed two further goals from substitute Mark Dolman to seal their victory that keeps up their hopes of promotion.

Semington Rovers stayed in touch with North Star after they beat Chippenham Sports & Social Club 6-2 to take their winning run to nine games.

Chippenham started with ten players and fell behind to a Stuart Barber header, Stuart Donohoe added number two before Jason Bull halved the arrears when he planted the ball past deputising keeper Allan Clarke who was woefully out of position.

Jason Bull's second of the game bought the scores level at the start of the second half and this woke Semington from their slumbers and Richard Allum headed them back in front. Stuart Barber's right footed effort made it 4-2 and he completed the perfect hat trick when he added the fifth with his left peg.

Nathan Walker's crisp finish made up Semington's half dozen.

FC Colerne can't be ruled out of the promotion race after their 5-2 triumph over Hullavington moved them into third spot and heaped more problems on their opponents who are languishing in the bottom two.

Colerne had the game won in the first half after Steve Tarren had headed them in front on three minutes after a succession of corners. Five minutes later Ross Hall made it 2-0 after a good pass from Gordon Allen picked him out. Brian Doyle and Hall added further goals to make 4-0 at the break.

Hullavington came out strong at the start of the second period and goals from Andy Waller and George Crotty reduced the gap, but Richard Smart's low drive extinguished any hopes that they had of a comeback when he added number five for Colerne.

A strong second half performance saw Christian Malford gain revenge for an early season mauling by Coyote FC as they ended up 4-1 winners on their Seagry pitch.

Malford had started brightly with both Richard Bruce hitting the crossbar and Aaron Merryweather being denied by Coyote keeper Ashley Haines. Coyote came back into the game with Jerome Dyer beginning to control things in midfield.

Malford keeper Tom Collings kept his team in the game with two fine stops within a minute as Coyote pressed forward.

The Malford forwards were causing the Coyote defence problems on the break and after 40 minutes Richard Bruce collected Paul Boorman's through ball, beat a defender and volleyed home to give Malford the lead.

Coyote were stung into action and were level within three minutes. A quick free kick outside the box caught Malford asleep when the ball was played along the ground to an unmarked Adam Glover who stroked the ball home to level the scores. The half ended with scores tied at 1-1.

After the restart Malford again started brightly with Aaron Merryweather beating two defenders before sending his shot inches wide of the upright.

After 55 minutes the same played capitalised on a defensive error, he beat another defender and volleyed Malford into the lead.

Malford began to take control of the game and went 3-1 into the lead when Ben Munns ground shot appeared to hit a divot sending the ball over the body of the diving keeper. Malford however appeared to relax too much as first Jerome Dyer's free-kick from distance hit an upright after bouncing several times in the Malford area without any challenge and then keeper Collings was forced to make an excellent save to his right to stop a goal bound effort.

Malford recovered and took back control. Another defensive error let in Richard Bruce who also skipped past a defender before scoring his second and Malford's fourth.

Malford were also able to bring on their substitutes and ran out the game as comfortable winners to avenge their early season 7-0 hammering.

Kingfisher were unable to raise a team for their trip to Potterne.
