A23 TRUNK ROAD - GATWICK AIRPORT TO BRIGHTON TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the A23 Trunk Road in the County of East Sussex, and the Unitary Authority of Brighton and Hove, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order is to authorise:-
a) the overnight closure, in periodical phases, of:
i) sections of both carriageways of the A23 between Pease Pottage Interchange (M23 Junction 11/A264) and Patcham Interchange Roundabout (A27);
ii) both carriageways of the road connecting Patcham Interchange
Roundabout to the A27;
iii) both carriageways of Airport Way between North Terminal and South Terminal Roundabouts at Gatwick Airport;
iv) all the slip and link roads leading to and from the carriageways described in i) and iii) above;
v) the fast link road connecting the southbound carriageway of the A23 to the road leading to the A27;
vi) the roads leading to and from the north-westbound carriageway of London Road (Gatwick) to and from North Terminal Roundabout;
vii) all of the gaps in the central reservation of the carriageways described in i) above;
viii) all of the side roads at junction with the carriageways described in i) and ii) above; and
ix) all of the bus stops in or adjacent to the carriageways described in i) above; and
b) the 24-hour closure of all the lay-bys adjacent to the carriageways described in i) above (when the section of road to which they are adjacent is closed).
These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake phased periodical routine maintenance. It is expected that the work will take place for approximately 2 nights for each phase every two months between 20:00 and 05:00 (maximum period) starting on or after Monday 8th July 2019.
The Order will come into force on 6 July 2019 and have a maximum duration of six months. Traffic affected by the carriageway and slip closures will be diverted using other junctions
on the A23, and by using the A24, A27, A264,
A272, A273, A281, A2300, B2036, B2114, B2115, B2117, B2118, London Road (Bolney), Pyecombe local roads, Carden Avenue (Brighton), and Airport Way (Gatwick). Access to property and business solely accessible from the A23 will be maintained under escort. The diversion in operation will vary according to the closure in force.
The temporary closures and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works periods.
