Worship: What really matters

I CANNOT agree with Marcia Stretch's assertion that the proposed changes to the seating at St Bartholomew's in Horley will adversely affect it as a place of worship (Letters, March 26).

When I visited the church with my children a few years ago my overwhelming impression was of a church whose members had experienced a spiritual revival but whose work was badly hampered by the inflexible church building.

Jesus himself spoke of the folly of trying to keep new wine in old wineskins (Matt 9: 17). He also said that the place of worship was unimportant; what mattered was the attitude of the heart (John 4: 21-24).

My own church, Horley Baptist, has to meet in a school hall as there are now too many of us to fit into the church building but I am sure that God enjoys our worship just as much as if we were in the most beautiful cathedral.
