South Nutfield fall to champs
South Nutfield 225-9dec
Brockham Green 229-7
On yet another dreary summer's day in the Surrey Downs, the 2007 Division 1 champions won the toss and elected to put South Nutfield in to bat on a damp wicket.
The home side got off to a dubious start with opener Gilbert getting run out for four. Chris Walker maintained his vigilance and restored order with No 3 Jackson to get the score up to 50 before Jackson fell for 23 and South lost another wicket with the very next ball.
A fourth wicket fell soon after and the home side were reeling at 70-4.
Julian Walker joined his elder brother at the crease and attempted to recover the score, with the siblings batting well in the face of some tight bowling for G Weide who had claimed three wickets so far.
J Walker fell for 36 in the 40th over but it was brother Chris who held the innings together finally falling for a fine 123. The left South Nutfield with a total of 225 for 9 of 45 overs, with Weide finshing with fine figures of 7 for 56 off 13 overs.
On a drying wicket Brockham Green started well ticking along at seven an over until the fall of Darren Jordan for 17.
The away team lost regular wickets but the score kept ticking along nicely and when bowling hero Weide came in at Nor 4 the game was still in the balance.
As the rain started to come down Weide took to the South Nutfield with increasing vim and vigour and an already damp ball become more like soap than leather as the No 4 continued on his merry way hitting the ball to all parts of the ground.
Interestingly it was only leg spinner Bruce Rawson who could make inroads into the Brockham line up taking 3-35 in his spell.
Unsurprisingly it was Weide who carried Brockham Green with both bat and ball, finishing just shy of his century on a fine 95 not out, as the away team won the game with a couple of overs to spare.
