Tottman super saves ensure cup victory

| Nutfield produced an upset on a grand scale |

Phoenix Royals 0
NUTFIELD Youth U14 won the Epsom and Ewell League Cup. Finishing third in Division One of the league in what was considered a pretty average league campaign, Nutfield's achievements in the cup was outstanding. After beating Merstham in the quarter- finals, who subsequently won the Premier Division, the victory over Phoenix, who finished third in the Premier Division, proved to be an upset on a grand scale.
Both teams started well with confident play and end-to-end football but it was Nutfield that used a set-piece to gain the advantage. Jack Potts sent in a cleared corner from the right for Ben Donovan to pop up at the near post and head the ball in after ten minutes. Royals were unlucky not to have equalised later on in the first half were it not for Jack Bellars to clear the ball off the line.
A string of fine saves from goalkeeper Harry Tottman proved to be the difference, especially in the second half. Nuts did have a couple of chances to finish the game off late on but both Chris Bailey and Andrew Young failed to convert the opportunities. Phoenix piled on the pressure in the final minutes but the defensive duo of Henry Pope and Jason Askew stood strong to ensure the underdogs came out on top.
