Beaten, but positive performances

Felbridge and Sunnyside 80-1

Reigate Priory 79-7

PRIORY'S young U13 ESL side started their campaign with a East Surrey Colts League Cup First Round defeat at the hands of Felbridge and Sunnyside but with some positive performances nevertheless to give heart for the coming season.

Batting first, Priory made a cautious start, with opener Jamie Vidler and Joe Harrington providing a base for the innings. Impetus was needed, however, and was duly delivered courtesy of a splendid 25 not out from George Rayson, pushing the score to 79 for the loss of eight wickets after 20 overs.

While Priory's bowlers performed creditably, the needed early wickets were hard to come by against the good technique of the Felbridge opening pair, until Gaskill was bowled by George Goodwin (the pick of the bowlers with three overs, 1-10) for 11 well crafted runs. Priory had chances in the field, Vidler, Harrington and Goodwin (again) the unlucky bowlers. The opportunity to put pressure on the visitors' batting was thus lost, and Felbridge passed the home score for the loss of just one wicket in the 16th over.
