Brown cracks nine sixes

Nutfield CC 160 all out

South Nutfield CC 162-5

A TIE between rivals South Nutfield CC and Nutfield CC was the perfect way to start the cricket season.

Winning the toss at home on a damp wicket certainly gave the home team an advantage and a good spell of bowling from Matt Lewis saw Nutfield struggling at 98-8.

However, a fine display from Nutfield's No.10 with a quickfire 42 saw the visitors reach a respectable total of 160.

The home team's confidence took a severe knock when captain Chris Walker fell early followed closely by debutant Tom Collard. At 5-2, and following a fine opening spell from Nutfield's M Parker, South decided this was no time for consolidation and went on the attack.

At the crease, Dave Gentles and Rob Brown put on a century stand for the third wicket and put SNCC within touching distance of victory. Gentles fell for 30 and Brown went on to open the season with 102 including ninesixes. The home team completed the job with around ten overs to spare.

South Nutfield open their league season next weekend at home to Headley Old Freeman's, and Nutfield CC are at home to Holmbury St Mary.
