F3 disappointment for Chilton at Croft
REIGATE teenager Max Chilton had a frustrating weekend at Croft, Yorkshire, in the third and fourth rounds of the British Formula 3 International championship.
The teenager, who celebrated his 17th birthday last week, missed the two-day test practice session earlier this month and managed just two 50 minute stints on the track on Friday ahead of qualifying.
After starting the first race in 16th position Max, who drives for reigning champions Hitech, ended in a disappointing 22nd place, two cars ahead of his team mate Walter Grubmuller.
He did, however, earn a crucial point for putting down the fastest lap after changing to slick tyres in the closing minutes. The round was won by Mexican Sergio Perez.
The second race was more successful for Chilton who clawed back four places after starting 14th on the grid to finish tenth.
Kiwi Brendon Hartley took the chequered flag making him the fourth winner in as many races.
Chilton is currently ninth overall in the championship.
