Merstham's lack of ruthlessness in front of goal cost them two points on Saturday after being held by mid-table Reading Town.

Despite an even first half performance, Merstham went on to dominate the second period of play with tremendous amounts of possession. Chances from pretty much every Merstham player were attempted but luck was not on their side.

Reading started brightly with two troublesome set pieces to warm up Merstham keeper Colin Harris, before the hosts took control of the game.

Referee Andrew Roberts waved away Merstham appeals for a penalty after Graham Lewis looked to be fouled in the box, as both sides went in goalless at the break.

Merstham continued where they left off after the interval with Jamel Carr testing Reading keeper Danny Tillson with a free-kick on the edge of the box.

Reading were struggling to keep Merstham at a distance. It looked like only a matter of time before Reading would crack.

Unfortunately Merstham's lack of finishing got the better of them and by 90 minutes Reading were certainly glad to hold out for a 0-0 draw.

A mixed set of results sees Merstham down to third after Godalming Town continued their winning run with a 4-0 win over Southall.

Horley Town failed to pick up any points after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Colliers Wood, leaving Merstham tight against them with three games in hand.
