Boxing champion Ben Davies has warned his next opponent to expect fireworks in the ring next month, after sacrificing his New Year celebrations in preparation for his next title defence.
Middleweight Davies will step through the ropes on Saturday February 7th at the Millennium Effingham Park Hotel to take on Bournemouth’s Mark Verity in the second defence of his Queensbury Regional title, and the Redhill based champion has promised his fans more action than ever before as he bids to continue his rise up the rankings in the UK’s premier boxing league.
Davies was last in action back in November when he edged out Basingstoke’s Harry Combes by the slenderest of margins in a nail biting finish to his most successful year in the sport, and after coming close to losing his crown the young champion says he will be mixing his training up this time around to give him that extra edge to ensure there will be no slip ups.
Talking ahead of the first big night of action of the season Davies said: “I can’t wait to get back into the ring next month, and I’m promising my fans more aggression and more excitement which is what they have come to expect from me now.
“Looking back at my last fight against Combes I think it’s fair to say I definitely underestimated him and it showed in my performance, but I learnt a lot from that fight and showed people I’ve got a big heart and can dig deep when it matters and pull out the win.
“For my next defence against Verity I know I’m going to have to come into this fight at my very best as he’s a strong come forward style boxer like myself, but I’ve been mixing my training up this time around and working on my strength and conditioning so I’m going to be stronger and fitter than I’ve ever been before when that first bell sounds."
Also in action on the undercard of the Rise Of The Warriors promotion, Davies teammates Chris Brill and Ashley Dansie from the White Dogs boxing gym will also make appearances on the show.
Redhill’s Brill will return to action after a career best performance last time out when he claimed the Novice Cruiserweight title to take on an unnamed opponent up in the Heavyweight division, while Dansie will get his second shot at the Welterweight title against long term rival Anthony Ayinde to finish their trilogy of fights that currently stands and one win each.
The Redhill trio will all be in action on Saturday February 7th at the Millennium Effingham Park Hotel, and for more information on the rest of the line up go to www.queensburyboxing.co.uk.
