Joan Spiers returns as council leader
JOAN Spiers has regained her position as leader of Reigate and Banstead Borough Council.
Cllr Spiers, who first became leader in 2001, was ousted by Cllr Lynne Hack following last year's local elections.
A vote at the annual Conservative group meeting on Tuesday was won by Cllr Spiers.
She said: "I put my name forward and enough people voted for me. I am just delighted to be able to serve the council, the councillors and the residents of the borough."
During Cllr Hack's year as leader the party has been criticised for poor attendance at meetings and she has failed in two bids to become a Parliamentary candidate.
Cllr Hack lost the leadership vote five days after the Conservatives lost two seats in the local elections.
Cllr Spiers' position as leader will be confirmed at next Thursday's full council meeting.
