Police were this week hunting two armed robbers dressed as postmen who held up staff in a Reigate jewellers.

The raiders, who struck at Phillip Lloyds jewellers in High Street, threatened the store workers with a weapon and hit a member of staff.

They escaped with cash – apparently making their getaway on a motorbike.

A Surrey Police spokesman said the staff member hit during the robbery suffered head injuries and was taken to East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, by ambulance for treatment.

The spokesman said: “At this stage in the investigation it is too early to say what weapon was used in the robbery, and how much money was stolen.”

Detectives believe the robbers rode off on a silver motorbike in the direction of Park Lane.

The robbery took place around 11.25am yesterday.

Investigating Officer Detective Sergeant Errol Chetty of Reigate CID, said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in Reigate High Street this morning, and who saw anything suspicious or who witnessed the motorcycle leaving the scene, to contact officers with information.”

He said: "A thorough investigation is being carried out by detectives to find who is responsible for the robbery and to bring them to justice.”

Specialist neighbourhood officers from the Reigate and Banstead Safer Neighbourhood Team were making house-to-house enquiries and reassurance visits in the area.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference P12302996, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
